The opening of the MTR extension had driven rents up in the neighbourhood. Many small

  Chedi Luang of Chiang Mai

Wat Chedi Luang (temple of the big stupa) is a Buddhist temple in the old town
of Chiang Mai, Thailand. The construction of the temple started in the 14th
century and finished in the mid-15th century. It was then 82 m high and had
a base diameter of 54 m, at that time the largest building of all Lanna,
a kingdom centred in present-day northern Thailand from the 13th to
 18th centuries.

  Golden Umbrella of Doi Suthep

A golden umbrella stands next to the golden chedi of the sacred Wat Phra That
Doi Suthep, built in 1383 to house a miraculous Buddha relic that was carried
by a white elephant which wondered the mountain until its death at this spot,
interpreted as the 'chosen' location for the temple.

The chedi is topped by a five-tiered umbrella in honour of the city's union
with Thailand after independence from Myanmar. This appears to be the
appropriate site to ask for blessing on Umbrella movement in Hong Kong.

The temple is 16 km northwest of Chiang Mai, reached by a strenuous 306-step
staircase intended as an act of meditation. It is part of the Doi Suthep-Pui
National Park which includes the sacred peaks of Doi Suthep (1676 m) and
 Doi Pui (1685 m).

90 year-old Uncle Wong, arrested at both the Admiralty and Causeway Bay Occupy
zone clearing, is unrepentent and still goes to support protesters at the last
Occupy site on the pedestrian pavement outside Hong Kong government headquarters
on Tim Mei Avenue. There are about 70 tents which have been moved from the
Legislative Council protest area after being cleared on 15 December.

"CY Leung hasn't responded to our demands, even though hundreds of thousands of
us have been sitting here for several months," said Wong. "He has totally
ignored us, so we still want answers from him. I want to stay in jail if
I can, to force him to pay for my keep."

Final Occupy Site at Causeway Bay Cleared

One of the last 17 protesters arrested was still carrying a yellow umbrella and
shouting 'I want real universal suffrage'. Police cleared the final Occupy zone
at Causeway Bay in about 2 hours Monday morning. Among the arrested are legislator
Chan Ka-lok, 90 and 78 year-old Uncle Wong and Uncle Ng.

Government declared the 'end of Occupy' but there are plenty of signs that say
'we will be back'. This may be the end of Occupy but the Umbrella Movement
appears to be blooming all over the city as the government had not moved
an iota towards meeting the demands of the protesters.
