792,000 Voted at Occupy Central Referendum in Hong Kong

Voting traffic is still high on the last day as over 792,000 voted in the
Unofficial Referendum on democratic reforms in Hong Kong organised by
Occupy Central group. The Three-track proposal by the Alliance for
True Democracy won by 42% of the vote.

The voter turnout is very impressive despite record massive level of hacker
attack launched against the voting website and apps, apparently linked to
the Chinese government. The people have spoken and should be heeded.
Final vote count of 792,000 updated from 787,000 on 30 June.

Record Hong Kong Lawyers Against Beijing Interference

Over 1,800 lawyers in Hong Kong, dressed in black and at 33 degree C, marched
to the Court of Final Appeal to protest against what they see as Chinese
interference, a sign of growing concern about the rule of law in the
International financial centre and a further act of dissent against Beijing.

The march is the third since Hong Kong's handover to China and sets a record.
on the number of lawyers protesting. In 1999, 600 marched and 900 in 2005,
followed controversial Basic Law interpretations by China.

Hong Kong Lawyers March Against China Meddling

Dressed in black, over 1,800 lawyers in Hong Kong marched from the High Court
in Admiralty to the Court of Final Appeal in Central today to defend judicial
independence, a core value that is threatened by the recent release by
Beijing of a White Paper on the "one country, two systems" policy.

The march is the third since the return of Hong Kong to Chinese rule.
The first two, in 1999 and 2005, followed controversial Basic Law
 interpretations by Beijing.

  Unsung Heroes Behind 1600 Pandas

Over a thousand volunteers were recruited within 2 days, who worked tirelessly to make
the various 'flash mob' art installations possible, rain or shine. On many occasions,
volunteers had to get up at wee hours to start installing the 1600 Pandas as early
as 4 am. Many were totally drenched working under scorching sun and torrential rain.
Similarly for all the working bees including the PR and creative team.

The heritage-listed PMQ (former Police Married Quarters) is Hong Kong's new

Yat Sen, father of the Chinese Republic after overthowing the Qing Dynasty
in the 1911 Revolution. The school evolved into Queen's College of today.

1600 papier mache pandas meet the frenzied locals at Victoria Park. At 17
hectares, it is the largest patch of greenery on Hong Kong island
and is a great escape from the concrete jungle.

Home of the annual June 4 vigil since 1990, it attracts hundreds of thousands
of people to commemorate the 1989 Tiananmen Square Crackdown. The park is

1600 Pandas Ride The Star Ferry

You can't say you've 'done' Hong Kong until you've taken a ride on The Star Ferry.
1600 Pandas certainly enjoyed their unforgetable ride drinking in the fabulous
views of the Victoria Harbour on the electric-diesel vessel named Solar Star.

Not even the iconic Star Ferry can face down developers. The Star Ferry Pier with
its Clock Tower in Edinburgh Place, Central was the flash point of the riots of
1966. 40 years later, a confrontation between conservationists and the
government resulted in its demolition in Dec 2006 to allow for reclamation.
