Tung Tak Pawn Shop
Another remnant of old Hong Kong is set to fade away with the demolition of
the historic Tung Tak Pawn Shop and the Grade III historical building from
the 1930's in Wan Chai.
The Wanchai landmark is the only remaining single block prewar Chinese
tenement corner building with large arcades extended over the pedestrain
walkway. The owner, second-generation casino king Ko Ho-ning, insists
on demolition to be replaced by a 23-floor commercial centre instead
of preservation as advised by the Antiquities and Monuments Office.

defender of human rights - whose recent book 'I Defend' was sold-out at the Hong

that judges are 'administrators' who had to be 'patriotic'. It raised fears
