Victorian Beach Chalets

Muizenberg Beach, in the Southern Peninsula of South Africa, is famous for
its row of primary-colour painted Victorian beach bathing chalets and is
very popular with families.

African Penguins

A colony of African penguins settled in Boulders Beach, in the Southern
Peninsula of South Africa in 1982. This is part of the Table Mountain
National Park and one of the few sites where this vulnerable bird
(Spheniscus demersus) can be observed at close range, wandering
freely in a protected natural environment.

Hector Pieterson Memorial

'To Honour the Youth Who Gave Their Lives in the Struggle for Freedom and
Democracy' is inscribed outside Hector Pieterson Memorial and Museum in
Orlando West, Soweto (SOuth-WEst TOwnship), South Africa, two blocks
away from where 13 year-old Hector Pieterson was shot and killed
when the police opened fire on protesting students on 16 June 1976.

The museum covers the events leading up to the anti-Afrikaans Soweto
Uprising of 1976 and the boy who stood as a symbol of resistance to
the brutality of the apartheid government.

Soweto township was created in 1904 to move non-whites out of Johannesburg
while keeping them close enough to use as labourers.

Johannesburg City Hall is an Edwardian building constructed in 1914 by the
Hawkey and McKinley construction company. The Gauteng Provincial
Legislature currently occupies the building.

Protest Against Lantao Development

A rally organised by the South Lantao Concern Group to protest against the
opening of South Lantao Road, which is deemed the first step down the
slippery slope of urbanising Lantao Island resulting in damaged village
life, eroded natural environment, worsen road safety and abandoned
conservation principles. They marched from Central Pier to
Government headquarters at Admiralty.

Red Bamboo Forest

Red Bamboo Forest, a large-scale ceramic installation by North Korean artist
Lee Seung-hee, created with 6,500 parts made in Jingdezhen, China’s famous
ceramics town. Lee derives his inspiration from the red bamboo painting
by the famous Chinese poet and statesman Su Shi in the Sung Dynasty.

Pu Zhiqiang Pleads Innocent

Prominant human rights lawyer Pu Zhiqiang pleads innocent on trial in Beijing
on Monday for the crimes of 'inciting ethnic hatred' and 'creating a disturbance',
after criticizing the Communist Party and its policies on social media,
after 19 months in jail.

Pu asks the court to 'give a verdict that stands the test of history,' says
his lawyer, Mo Shaoping. That appears to challenge the judiciary to act
independently, instead of siding with the government almost routinely.
Date of the verdict has not been announced.

Save Our Country Parks

A firestorm of selfies of people hiking in 18 country parks all over Hong
are posted on social media today with the hashtag #SaveOurCountryParks
on Sunday, in response to a call by the 'Save Our Country Parks'
alliance, formed by over 30 environmental groups.

This is to counter repeated calls to develop housing on grounds designated
as country parks by Chief Executive C Y Leung's administration.

Kacey Wong's Transform Bar II

'Transform Bar II', a mobile urban farm/bar by visual artist Kacey Wong, is
the most popular display at the Bi-city Biennale of Urbanism/Architecture
which opens at Kowloon Park on Friday through 28 Feb 2016.

A long queue of people awaits for the Mojito cocktails freshly made from
the mint leaves harvested on-site. Kacey is also busy being interviewed
by media from Shenzhen and Hong Kong.

Justice Centre Human Rights Choice Award

This photographer is the winner of Hong Kong Justice Centre Choice Award of the
2015 Hong Kong Human Rights Arts Prize with his work 'What Next for Hong Kong'.

It is auctioned by Christie's for HK$21,000, beyond the estimate price range.
Five limited edition reprints are first to be sold out for HK$10,000 with
more on order. All proceeds are donated to Hong Kong Justice Centre.

What's Next for Hong Kong

A protester with a yellow umbrella ponders where she will go next when there is
no light at the end of the tunnel, reflecting the current state of affairs for
Hong Kong since December 15, 2014, after 79 days of Umbrella Movement when
hundreds of thousands occupied the streets of Hong Kong to demand human
rights including democracy and genuine universal suffrage.

The United Nations Human Rights Committee expressed concern that the demand
of the Hong Kong people, enshrined in the International Covenant on Civil and
Political Rights (a landmark treaty signed by China in 1998) has not been met.

Kiki Li at MUSIC @MAZE Green Concert

Singer-song-writer Kiki Li will be performing at MUSIC @MAZE Green Concert, co-organised
by Youth Square and Dr Rebecca Lee - Founder of Polar Museum Foundation, at Y Theatre
of Youth Square on 12 December.

Kiki won the championship (composing group) of the Pok Oi Hospital charitable singing
contest in 2012. She is active on stages including NOW TV and Avenue of the Stars.
Kiki is among the Top 6 of Na Ying's Group in the Voice of China 4 competetiion
and the only Hong Kong contestant in the show.

Youth Square MUSIC @MAZE Green Concert

Echoing Paris Climate Summit, Dr Rebecca Lee - Founder of Polar Museum Foundation,
Kiki Li, and emerging musicians Renee Chan, Charlie, et al, will introduce their
first concert themed on polar and green concern, at Y Theatre of Youth Square
on 12 December.

Green messages such as 'damaged nature', 'season creep', 'protect the polar regions'
and 'treasure the Earth' will be raised by the musicians and Dr Lee.
