Sun Salutation

Zadar's awesome 'Sun Salutation', designed by local architect
Nikola Basic, is a 22m-wide circle set into the ground at the
waterfront filled with 300 multilayer glass plates that
collect solar energy during the day.

It produces a trippy colourful light show at night and is packed
with tourists, locals and excited children every night.

Salzburg Cathedral

'Comfort Woman' Memorial

A haunting bronze sculpture of a young woman in honbok (traditional Korean
dress) sits in a chair and stares impassively near the Japanese embassy
in Seoul. She is a symbol of thousands of Korean women who were used as
sex slaves, euphemistically called 'comfort women', by Japan's army
during World War II from 1930s until 1945.

Japan's prime minister Shinzo Abe expressed 'sincere apologies and remorse
to all the estimated 200,000 [Korean] women who underwent immeasurable
and painful experiences and suffered incurable physical and psychological
wounds as comfort women.' and offered US$8.3 million in compensation.

An estimated 360,000 to 410,000 in China and thousands in Taiwan, Burma,
Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, East Timor and
other Japanese-occupied territories are still waiting for similar
apology and compensation.

Protesters to Beijing Leader: Get Lost

Protesters were outnumbered by the police as they marched towards Hong Kong
Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wanchai, where the visiting National
People’s Congress Chairman was giving a keynote address, chanting 'No
interference in Hong Kong affairs, Zhang Dejiang get lost!'.

8,000 police officers were deployed to protect Zhang with 5,000 in Wanchai.
Protesters burned the petition letter to Zhang after only a junior officer
from the adminstration was dispatched to receive it.

Lockdown Ahead of First Post-Occupy Beijing Visit

Hong Kong is on the highest security lockdown ever ahead of the three-day visit
by National People’s Congress Chairman Zhang Dejiang, the first top leader to
visit since the 79 days occupy by Umbrella Movement.

About 6,000 police officers and 200 2-metre-high barricades are deployed in Wanchai
North, where Zhang will be staying at Grand Hyatt Hotel and attending the 'Belt and
Road Summit' at Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.

A giant yellow banner (10 x 3.2 metres) reading "We Want Genuine Universal Suffrage"
(in Chinese) was placed by protesters from the League of Social Democrats (LSD)
on Beacon Hill, next to Lion Rock this morning, despite tens of police camping
out at the top of Lion Rock.

Another giant black banner reading "End the Rule by Chinese Communists" was
hoisted by LSD at Tung Chung near the airport just as the motorcade of
Zhang was passing through.

Hundreds Protest Firing of Ming Pao Editor

Over 400 journalists, activists and politicians including 6 legislators rally
outside Ming Pao Industrial Centre in Chaiwan on Monday afternoon to protest
over the summary firing of a top editor of Ming Pao, a popular Chinese-
language daily.

It is a sign of deteriorating press freedom in Hong Kong as Beijing continues
its attempt to reign-in the special enclave that is supposed to have a high
degree of autonomy. Organised by 8 journalist groups, protesters carried
pieces of ginger to symbolise their support for the sacked executive
editor, Keung Kwok-yuen, whose surname in Chinese rhythms with ginger.
