Deserted Massive Printing Plant

One of the leading newspaper publishing companies moved into this office and
printing complex with an investment of HK$670 million in 1995, at the peak
of its profitability. Daily circulation exceeded 100,000 then. The 7-storey
building houses the printing line at the lower floors and the offices in
upper floors, including a cafeteria.

Probably due to decreasing readership and more emphasis on digital content,
the complex ceased operations around March 2023. The expensive printing
system is still on site, as are lots of furniture, fixtures and
personal items.

Hidden Rabbit Photo Exhibition

The photography exhibition "Hidden Rabbits: Concealed in Shatin" showcases
historic buildings and abandoned villages in Shatin, often overlooked by
local residents but steeped in historical and cultural significance.
Through Ho Yat's unique perspective and the vivid stories of a group
of wild rabbits, the exhibition blends the old landscape with new
interpretations, showcasing a hidden side of Shatin.

Hiuman Lam of "Hong Kong Reminiscence," a dedicated photographer and
writer on Hong Kong's cultural landscape, curated this exhibition.
She brings her keen urban observation to explore Shatin with viewers.

The exhibition venue, Stewards High Rock Centre, formerly the old
Sha Tin Police Station, was built in 1924 and is a Grade II historic
building. Surrounded by mature trees, the red brick buildings stand
atop a hill in Shatin. Embracing the tranquil and historic atmosphere,
one feels perfectly aligned with the theme of the exhibition.

Established in 1947, the secondary school started in a temporary facility
until the current campus was built in 1965. There are two 5-storey
buildings with an auditorium on the ground floor, a laboratory, a
music room with a drum set, a dulcimer and a violin, plus 17
standard classrooms.

The school's registration was canceled by the Education Bureau in
early September, stating that the school’s submitted representations
failed to address fundamental issues concerning its closure and
management adequately. The campus has been mostly cleared.

Century-old Village House

Built in 1920, the village house at 87 San Wai Tsuen in Tam Mei, Yuen Long
is rated a Grade III historic building. It features a fusion of Chinese
and Western architectural styles, with a distinctive feature at the
terrace, which is decorated with classical columns and a Chinese
old coin motif. This reflects the unique architectural culture
formed by early villagers who returned home to build new homes
after making money working in the United States and Canada.

Unfortunately, the owner told me that it will demolished within

populated and notorious neighbourhoods in the world.
